Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law on December 10, 2015. West Feliciana Parish School System has aligned federal and state initiatives to support higher student achievement, stronger public schools, a better-prepared teacher workforce and the preparation of all students for success in college and careers.

OUR PROGRAMS

TITLE I, PART A - IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF THE DISADVANTAGED

Purpose: To ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on state academic achievement standards and assessments. (School receiving Title I school-wide funding: Bains Lower Elementary, Bains Elementary)

TITLE I, PART A - PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT 

Purpose: To have schools help parents to help their children by offering capacity-building activities through direct parental involvement in the educational process, such as homework monitoring, enhanced communication between teachers and parents (progress reports, report cards, state assessment reports, newsletters, fliers, etc.), home-visits, school-parent compacts, parental involvement policy, parents’ right to know, school choice, school improvement, and other mechanisms. (If you would like more information on how to be involved in your child’s education, please contact their school and/or the Supervisor of Student Services, Lee Coleman, at 225-635-3891)

TITLE I, PART A - EDUCATION FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Purpose: The purpose of the Education for Homeless Children and Youth grant is to ensure that all homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as any non-homeless child or youth. (To complete a student residency questionnaire or to obtain more information, please contact Ricky Chatman, Homeless Liaison, at 225-635-3891)

TITLE I, PART A – FOSTER CARE

Purpose: To ensure that children in foster care experience minimal educational disruption as the result of foster care placement and receive the same opportunities as their peers to develop the skills necessary to be successful in school and life.  (To obtain more information, please contact Ricky Chatman, Foster Care Liaison, at 225-635-3891)

TITLE I, PART A – ENGLISH LEARNER

Purpose: To identify and provide support for English learners to attain English language proficiency and meet the same academic standards as other students. (For more information visit: https://www.louisianabelieves.com/resources/library/english-learners)

TITLE II, PART A –TEACHER AND PRINCIPAL TRAINING AND RECRUITING

Purpose: To increase student academic achievement by elevating teacher and principal quality through recruitment, hiring, and retention strategies and to hold school districts and schools accountable for improvements in student academic achievement.

TITLE IV-A– STUDENT SUPPORT AND ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT GRANT (SSAE)

Purpose: To provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for student learning, and improve the use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.
