JULY 6, 2020 UPDATE
Reopening Plan 2020-2021
At this point, if we remain in Phase 2, our plan is to return to school in a traditional model with face-to-face instruction five days a week for Pre-K -8th grades and four days a week for high school students with Wednesdays being a virtual learning day.
As you know, we have been working tirelessly to develop the best plan for our school district with the safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff being the top priority. The information regarding this virus is constantly changing, so our plans today revolve around the information we have today. We cannot emphasize enough that these plans could change very easily with new guidance and requirements from the Governor, Louisiana Department of Education, and/or Louisiana Department of Health. This is a lofty goal, and we face numerous challenges to make this happen under the current guidance, but we believe face-to-face instruction is what is best for our students. We understand some students and families have concerns about returning to school, so we will also offer a virtual program where students can learn online on a computer at their homes.
We appreciate your patience and understanding while everyone is doing the best they can to provide the most effective instruction for our students while protecting our faculty, staff, and children.
July 6, 2020
We continue to monitor and follow guidance from the governor, health officials, LDOE, and BESE. Although we do not have answers to all questions at this point, we will continue to update you with information. If you have any questions, please email us at COVID19@wfpsb.org or call the schools or school board office during office hours listed below.
If you need assistance or have questions, our school offices are open 8:00-3:00 Monday-Thursday.
Don’t forget to register for Pre-K! Our Pre-K program is universal, which means any child in our parish can attend at no cost. Registration information can be found on the Bains Lower website at https://www.wfpsb.org/o/ble/browse/112792 . Parents can also pick up a packet from Bains Lower Elementary between 8:00-3:00 Monday-Thursday. If you have any questions, call Bains Lower Elementary (635-4696) during those office hours or email Mr. Torrence Williams, BLE principal (WilliamsT@wfpsb.org).
Completed registration forms can be emailed to Mr. Williams or dropped off at Bains Lower Elementary.
A survey was distributed to seniors regarding graduation options. The seniors' first choice was to have a traditional ceremony in July. The graduation ceremony will be July 10 at 9:00 a.m. in the West Feliciana High School Stadium; CDC spacing guidelines will be followed for guests and graduates.
Guests must have a ticket to enter the graduation ceremony.
We will continue to send information via text messages, email, and social media. If you have any questions regarding the school reopening plan, you can email us at COVID19@wfpsb.org or call the school board office Monday-Thursday between 8:00-3:00 at 225-635-3891.
If you have technology questions or issues with the online assignments, you can call our tech help desk Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at 225-286-7804.
Please note that testing requirements for graduation for 2019-2020 9th-11th graders still apply. What this means:
If students were in a LEAP course during the 2019-2020 school year, they did not have to take that LEAP exam.
Students who were in grades 9th-11th will still be required to pass the following LEAP exams to graduate:
English I OR English II
Algebra OR Geometry
Biology OR US History
For example: If students were in English I, they did not have to take the test this year. However, they will have to pass the English II test next year in order to graduate. The same goes for the other subjects.
The June and September test dates will count for TOPS for 2020 graduates.
Juniors will have the opportunity to take the ACT, free of charge, in October.
West Feliciana Parish Schools will continue to follow guidance from the LHSAA, and we will provide updates as they are available.
