- On Wednesday, a large number of our 4th graders had the awesome opportunity to participate in a Skype virtual reading session with Ms. Donna Edwards, the First Lady. Mrs. Edwards read the book Bernice about the negative effects of bullying. Our students enjoyed the book and visiting with Mrs. Edwards. They asked several questions and we were all pleasantly surprised as Governor John Bel Edwards and their dog Lady joined the Skype session. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Wendy Richardson and Mrs. Jean Woodside for organizing the opportunity.
First Lady Donna Edwards
Curtis Minor asks the First Lady what animal that lives in our state is her favorite? Mrs. Edwards provided a story about getting the opportunity to hold a cub and that the Louisiana Black Bear is her favorite.
Marianna Baker asked Mrs. Edwards about her passion. Ms. Edwards answered education. Ms. Edwards explained that she was a teacher and that students are dear to her heart.

- I am always impressed with our students' manners, their politeness, and thier enthusiasm. JM and Ally Jones came up and greeted me as soon as they got out of the carpool line on Friday morning. That's called "bright eyed and bushy tailed."

- We are very excited about the growth of our STEM electives at all of our schools. This year we joined FIRST, a national STEM program. Several of our teachers were able to go on a trip this week for extensive training. We can't wait to see what STEM opportunities they bring back to our students!

- At the regularly scheduled August 21st school board meeting, West Feliciana Superintendents were honored with an unveiling of their portrait in the school board room. The idea for the portraits came in a meeting last year when school board member Ms. Sara Wilson Rogers suggested that it would be nice to honor our history by recognizing our system leaders since the consolidation of schools. Ms. Ruthie Davis was chosen to help with the portraits as she worked for all of the superintendents in her career.
The superintendents recognized at the board meeting were:
Superintendent Wendell H. Hall 1969-1988
Superintendent Lloyd L. Lindsey 1992-2009
Jesse L. Perkins Jr. 2009-2010
Hollis G. Milton 2010-present
