West Feliciana Parish school nurses serve every child in the school district as well as many staff members who call for assistance, said Superintendent Hollis Milton.

Since August 2017, the school nurses have:

  • Performed 3,766 screenings on students, including hearing, vision, immunization compliance and scoliosis
  • Had 4,853 episodic encounters with students, including chronic care management, administering medications and seeing sick or injured children
  • Managed, administered or coordinated the administration of over 200 medications in schools

Although the nurses spend most of their time seeing children, they also are responsible for all individualized health care plans and emergency plans in the school district. The nurses provide education and training to staff and families on a daily basis, Milton said.
