Reflecting on Last Week 

  • Congratulations goes to the WFHS Boys Track Team for winning 3 consecutive state championships!

The WFHS Boys Track Team celebrates a three-peat!

WFHS Senior Track Members

  • Congratulations goes to our WFHS Girls for placing runner up in the 3A State Championship!

  • Congratulations go to WFHS Seniors Chandler Sullivan and Everitt Williamson for being named to the LHSAA All Academic Composite Team!

  • Our High School Graduation Cohort Rate was released this week.  Fast Facts:
  • Our graduation cohort rate for 2016-2017 was 90.9!  An increase of 9.3 from 2015-16 which was 81.6.  
  • In 2006-2007, our graduation cohort rate was 69.3.  In 10 years, our graduation rate has grown by 21.6!

  • Our graduating seniors took a trip down memory lane by visiting the students and staff at Bains and Bains Lower!  In case you missed it, please click here to see the Channel 2 report on all of the excitement.  

  • Congratulations goes to the 2018-2019 Band Color-Guard Team/Flag Team! In the picture the names of the members are: Rae'Lencia Williams, Rae'ghan Willams, Juliane Green, Edneshia Ebbs, Chasity Tate, Bre'Anna Tobias, Ayana Fungcharoen-McCray, and Michaela McEachern (not pictured Aaliyah Armstrong)

  • The "Better Behavior at Bains" program was an enjoyable experience for everyone who participated on May 4.  As we strive to help all students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, Ms. Sharon Gabriel created a vision at Bains to do just that through through Response to Intervention Program.  The students within the program said at the it has been life changing and their parents agree.  We heard testimonials from students Breyon Cobb, Jyiaimean Brooks, Ryan Johnson, and Chandra Johnson.  We were also fortunate to hear from several guest speakers including Mr. Anthony Gabriel, Mrs. Jill Thibodeaux, Mr. John Cobb, and Ms. Sherell Johnson.

 

  • TJ Curtis, Jr. celebrates signing his baseball scholarship to Louisiana College at Pineville with family, fellow friends and players, and numerous West Fel employees!

  • The NJROTC Awards Program was a lot of fun!  The following two pictures depict the actual change of command from Cadet Lieutenant Commander Ahriel Jones to Cadet Lieutenant Commander Lawrence Gonzalez. The second pictures shows the entire staff on the stage.

Ahriel Jones celebrates four years in NJROTC.  Ahriel led the entire NJROTC squad as the Company Commander.

  • The WFMS Athletic Banquet drew a large crowd!  Over 200 students participated in 16 sports at WFMS during the WFMS school year!

  • A special thanks goes to Johnny Arceneaux (administrator of BRCC Jackson Campus) for making his annual visit to read to Ms. Covington and Ms. Dawson's Pre-K classes.

  • Bains Elementary visited the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired (LSVI) in Baton Rouge.  This was a win-win for students at Bains and students at LSVI!

  • Pastor Milton Coates, Youth Pastor Chandler Robinson, the WFHS Choir led by Mr. Brandon Blaylock, Young Life Director Heather Blaylock, Troy Johnson, Reverend Daniel Hixon, and Father Roman Roldan provided spirtual guidance to our Class of 2018 Seniors through song, scripture, prayer, and guidance at our annual Baccalaureate Service.

  • Bains Lower Kindergartners set a WIG (Wildly Important Goal) of at least 75% of the students will know 23 or more sight words by May 2018.  As you can see, the Kindergartners met that goal in April!

  • Pre-K students,Forest Yarbrough, Lucy Rosso, Margaret Bell, and Jayce Sullivan lead the announcements at Bains Lower and then help Ms. Alicia Hamilton and Ms. Maria Kilcrease raise the flags.

  • Carter Adams shows off his shark tooth and then writes about it in his journal in Ms. Sam Rachal's class.

  • Bains Students Morgan Barbe and Alysse Davis, and Liza Rachal lead morning announcements with great enthusiasm and encouragement at Bains.

The 8th grade students at WFMS participated in a DAY OF SERVICE to help make their community at better place. After drafting project proposals,their English teachers, Mrs. Amanda Moorer and Mrs. Ali McMillan, helped  the students contact community agencies and plan for these SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS. Groups of 8th graders volunteered to care for animals at the shelter, to sort clothes at the clothes closet, to organize food at the food bank, to perform for the elderly at the nursing home, and to read to children at Bains Lower in addition to many other service projects.

  • Last Day of School for Students ~ May 18

174 Seniors graduated in the 2018 class!  This class earned $18 million in scholarships!  This amount does not include TOPS.
