You Survived the First 9 Weeks-Now What?

You Survived the First Quarter—Now What?

The first 9-weeks are officially in the books! It’s hard to believe we’re already one 9-weeks into the 2025-2036 school year. Whether your student is new to high school or well on their way to graduation, this milestone is an important checkpoint—a time to pause, reflect, and prepare for what’s next.

Reflect and Reset

Encourage your student to take a look back at the first 9-weeks:

  • What classes or habits are going well?

  • Where might they need to make small adjustments?

  • Are they keeping up with assignments and using class time wisely?

A little reflection can help set the tone for a stronger second 9-weeks.

Set Fresh Goals

The start of the second 9-weeks is the perfect opportunity to set new goals. Talk with your student about what they want to accomplish before the end of the semester—whether it’s improving a grade, getting more involved in extracurriculars, or balancing responsibilities more effectively.

Small, specific goals (like turning in all homework on time or studying 15 minutes more each night) can build momentum and confidence.

Stay Connected

Communication makes all the difference. If your student is struggling or unsure how to improve, remind them that teachers and counselors are ready to help. Don’t hesitate to reach out to staff for support or clarification—WFHS is a team effort, and we want every student to feel successful.

If you would like to schedule a parent conference, please contact the WFHS Guidance Office at (225) 635-4561.

Get Involved

Encourage your student to stay engaged in school life this fall. From athletic events and Homecoming activities to clubs and service opportunities, participation builds confidence and school spirit. You can stay updated on upcoming activities through our website and social media pages.

Look Ahead

The second 9-weeks tends to move quickly with holidays, exams, and events around the corner. Help your student stay organized by checking OnCourse Connect and ParentSquare regularly and maintaining consistent routines at home. Also, remember that grades do not start over at the beginning of the second 9-weeks.

With continued effort, support, and encouragement, your student can finish the semester strong!

We’re proud of how hard our Saints have worked so far—thank you for partnering with us to make the first 9-weeks a success. Let’s keep the momentum going!⚜️💙
