Reflecting on Last Week 

  • WFHS provided breakfast to 28 students to celebrate their success on Advance Placement tests.  Overall, WFHS had 28 students recognized by the College Board as AP Scholars, the most in WFHS history!

  • West Feliciana Early Childhood Programs that are located at Bains Lower were recognized for providing high quality instruction and care to the state's youngest learners (Birth to 3) by the Louisiana Department of Education.  West Feliciana was designated the highest honor in this category by being placed on the State Department of Education's Honor Roll.  

 

  • Mariyah G. and her dad are having a meaningful conversation in the Home Living Center!

  • Destiny G. is concentrating and getting those letters "IN FORMATION" in Ms. Ferguson and Ms. Leonard's Head Start class!

  • Akira W. is getting her "pincer grasp" fine tuned as she begin to form letters.

  • In Mrs. Hughes' Head Start class, the students are signing in upon arrival! 

  • Bryce Earhart demonstrates proper acetylene torch procedures.

 

  • Kirby Swan and Drake Barton demonstrate proper drilling technique while WFHS Principal Abby Cochran observes.

 

 

 

  • Congratulations go to WFHS Saints Runner Kelly Goff who signed her National Letter of Intent today to the University of Louisiana Lafayette.  She has earned a Cross Country/Track and Field scholarship and will compete as a Ragin' Cajun next year!

  • An environment conducive to learning all starts with our custodians!

  • Terralyn Curtis and Jennifer Summerhill build a timeline from reading passages for the Dust Bowl in Mrs. Knight's ELA class. 

WFHS Swim Team

  • Congratulations goes to Emery Godke and Reagan Edwards for being named to the LHSAA Academic All State Team!

 

 

  • All of our students at each school were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving Meal for lunch on Thursday.  A special thanks goes to each cafeteria staff and Ms. Pat Gilmore for making this delicious meal for our students.

  • Ms. Christian Funderburk's class enjoys a lesson outside so that the students can enjoy the cooler weather.

  • Ms. Alex Kilcrease checks Gabrielle Tate and James Hudson Deville's understanding of triangles and their attributes while they sat and discussed during their "Knee to Knee and Eye to Eye" time.

 

  • In case you missed it, Thursday was World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.  At Bains Lower, many of the employees wore purple ribbons for the cause.

 

  • Ms. Holly Caffarel taught a mini-lesson on the proper way to use the keyboard and touchscreens with her First Grade students!

 

  • A special thanks to our local Rotary for taking the time, effort, and commitment to help our students prepare for the future by teaching lessons from the CHOICES Program. This interactive decision-making workshop empowers teens to achieve academic success and pursue their career aspirations.

  • Ms. Liza Bryant and Ms. Linda Holmes met with Bains Lower Elementary's Lighthouse Team.  The students had the opportunity to discuss their individual responsibilities and also some of their goals for the year! A special thanks goes to Marcus Doherty, KaDrick Jackson, Elliot Vosburg, Reef Wax, Ashton Sellers, Sawyer James, Ja'Kaylinn Washington, Lydia Gilliam, Journey Fowler, Adlynn Moon, Piper Cutrer, and Chloe Singleton for their hard work and leadership!

  • Ms. Kim Tate, Bains Custodian, enjoys reading time with Isabella Wheeler, Lila Robillard, Carissa Ferguson, Dakota Soniet, and Kyleigh Whitfield.

  • Our school nurses do a great job and at this time of the year, they are quite busy!

  • Harmony White, Jarlaysia Davis, Sa'Maria Berry, and Giselle El Bechir are practicing Jingle Bells for the Christmas concert during Ms. Garrett's band class. 

  • I was fortunate to be recognized in Washington DC as the 2018 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year! While in DC, I had the unique opportunity of meeting with Senator Bill Cassidy.

  • DeShaun Williams, Gary Vinning, Ms. Alaina Shepard, and Ms. Sharon Kendrick enjoy a moment before school.

  • Multi-tasking and excellent customer service are prevalent in our schools. Ms. Renee Norsworthy displays this daily. She attends to everyone's needs!

 

  • Jaden Fowler and Ms. Kristin Patton enjoy the field trip to the Renaissance Festival in Hammond.

  • Ms. Ali McMillan, Maggie Cloughley, and Jonirea Cummings are asking a marine biologist about protecting the Earth's oceans.

  • Ms. Janet Lathrop is teaching 6th grade students ways to research in Leadership class. 

  • Ms. Liza Bryant taught students about shapes today.  In particular, their focus was on the attributes of a triangle compared to the other shapes.

  • In West Fel, we grow teachers!  A special thanks to all of our teachers who attended Teacher Academy 2: Connecting the Instructional Dots.

 

 

  • Ms. Cherie Reich and Ms. Jenna Yantis monitor students as they find various 3 dimensional shapes on their practice set page.

  • Bains and Bains Lower students get off to a great start each morning by checking out books and reading!

  • Jackson McKell, Julie LaGrone, Daylon Butler are participating in the Acrodunk performance.

  • G-Man, EZ Eddie, Cass, and Rich Boy Live from AcroDunk take a moment to pose for a picture with Mrs. Reed and a group of middle school students.

  • Students are mastering subject, verbs, and helping verbs with guided practice in grade 3!

  • Ms. Ali McMillans' students were Skyping with a Marine Biologist that studies the impact of plastics in the ocean. 

  • It's Book Faire time! Katie Walters (Mom) assists her daughter Aubrie Walters (3rd grade) in a book selection.

 

  • Mrs. Christian St. Romain monitors students' progress toward their written response about what they noticed from the story "The Little Red Hen."

  • The high school food drive, as part of the Class Wars competition, was a tremendous success! The juniors won, having collected 283 items with the seniors taking a close 2nd place.
