Mission Statement

West Fel swimming is a competitive athletic team for grades 9 through 12. By choosing to participate, students are making a commitment of their time that requires discipline, motivation, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Students are acknowledging that they can manage their academic responsibilities and other personal obligations while honoring the expectations and requirements of being on the swim team. Being a high school athlete is a privilege, not a right. And with that privilege comes added responsibilities, above and beyond that of the average student. Joining a high school team represents an exciting chance to race at the next level. Being part of a swim team requires a significant number of stamina, as swimming is a physically demanding sport. Building stamina can be achieved through regular swim practices and incorporating exercises that focus on cardiovascular endurance. It is important to encourage each member to work on their stamina. TEAMWORK!! GO SAINTS!

Our swim team competes 3 times a month starting in September - November at the district level to qualify for state times that are set each year. Swimmers can qualify as individual events and relay team events. Many of our swimmers made personal records at each meet this year. On November 19-20, West Fel Swim Team attended the State Swim meet Lillian Record swam individual events and received a metal for placing 3rd in the 50- yard freestyle. She also, placed 4th in the 100- yard freestyle. Dottie Carlton also swam in individual events and placed in top 16. Other swimmers swam in relay events and placed in the top 16. Our overall rankings were: Girls placed 12th out of 23 teams and Boys placed 20th out of 21 teams. Lillian and Dottie were invited to the All -Star Swim Meet on December 13th. The swimmers that placed in Top 16 at state meet for every division were invited to attend. Dottie Carlton was able to attend, and she competed in the 50- yard freestyle and placed 9th and 6th over all in the 100- yard backstroke.
