4-H is more than the raising and showing of livestock and horses. West Feliciana 4-H has many active project clubs which includes: Shooting Sports, Photography, Jr. Leader, Sewing, Horse, Nutrition, and Livestock. Character Counts is also a program that is sponsored by 4-H in which high school 4-H’ers are trained to go into elementary classrooms and teach the six pillars of character. 4-H gives students the chance not only to learn new skills, but also teaches 4-H’ers how to give to the community through service learning projects. In the past, 4-H students have brought their pets to the nursing home to brighten the day of our elderly people. 4-H also conducts fund raisers -- the sweet potatoes are so good they almost sell themselves! There are also many scholarship opportunities available on a parish and state level for those active in 4-H their last 3 years of school! Parent volunteers are invited to participate in many club activities. Any student or parent interested in 4-H can call the West Feliciana Parish AgCenter office at 635-3614, or email Katlin Lucas.
