Reflecting on Last Week 

  • Mary Elizabeth Barrow, Jack Hosford and Lily Ray presented their business plans to the St. Francisville Rotary.  All three students are a part of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of Baton Rouge.  These three students attend meetings at LSU on Wednesday nights to study business models, create their own business model, and learn from top CEO's in the Baton Rouge Area.

  • Gracyn Kleinpeter and Madzy Leak are exploring the lithospheric plates in Ms. Taylor Garrett's science class utilizing the zSpace lab.

  • WFMS students Gabby Orcino, Edward Garig, and Cody Bryant actively involved in exploring Plate Tectonics in the zSpace Lab! 

  • As part of R2L, students at WFMS added "Book Valentines" to their lockers.  These valentines included the students' favorite books and a hand drawn picture of the book cover.

 

 

  • Tyireion Whitfield, WFHS Senior, made the decision to serve our country after high school by signing with the US Navy this week.

 

  • In Mr. Eric Mendel's Spanish Classes at Bains Elementary, the students participated in a Panamanian folk art competition. The classes learned about fabric molas made by the indigenous Kuna Indians from the San Blas Islands in Panama. Colorful molas are important to Kuna culture. 4th grade winners:  Alexis Hoebs, Aydrian Hensley, Sadie Aitken, Rachel Alexander, Jackson St. Romain, Brylee Broussard, Jarren Naquin; 5th grade winners:  Blaise Carter, Logan Welch, Maci Huffstetler, Jackson Felker, Josie Gonzalez, Dereon Kaigler, Dalton Carter

  • Ms. Marilyn Pohlmann and Ms. Ali McMillan connect WFMS and Bains Elementary through Reader Leader!

  • Ms. Edine Seal discusses theme and central message with 3rd grader Ja'Kyra Washington.

  • Mr. Torrence Williams, Bains Elementary Assistant Principal, instructs students in social studies.

  • Second graders read a story about Ruby Bridges and discuss her impact on schools and society.

  • Ms. Erikka Neal works with 3rd graders to identify theme and central message of "Lapin Plays Possum" by Sharon Arms Doucet.

  • WFHS Freshmen Caleb Alexander, Keldrick Camel, and Quentin Scott learn about major religions by personifying their characteristics in Ms. Nicole Means' World Geography class.

  • Hillary Jones and Anneliese Landers are constructing a robot in Mrs. Reed's STEM class.

  • Sha'Niya Sullivan, Maddison Brown, Arieonia Ebbs, and Shenya Martin are collaborating on a stations activity in Mr. LeRoi's Social Studies class. 

  • WFMS students, Emma Funderburk, Maggie Cloughley, Jayvion Matthews, Ke'Ajah McQuirter, Arieonia Ebbs, Ashley Williams, Aliesha Brumfield, Makyra Johnson, Madelyn Anthony, Lauren Cazabat, Skyler Gilmore, Gabby Spangler, and A J Nixon celebrated their hard work and success on Accelerated Reader for the book "Chomp." 

 

  • We love grandparents!  A special thanks goes to Bains Lower for hosting a grandparents day!

  • In Mrs. Natasha Hayes's STEM class, the students were given the opportunity to create a LOVE potion for their parents!

  • King Ernest is focused and enjoying the free time he has earned for filling his incentive chart!

  • James Hollis from Mrs.Bryant's class is enthusiastic about discussing the lines that form the capital letter H!

  • Ms. Bridget Bush works with Kolton Braddock, Amonte Franklin, Olivia Dees, and Johntydrix Cain in a small group during science class. 

  • WFHS Sophomores Margaret Anne Lott and Zane Coleman use Nearpod to take notes in Mr. Jonatha Henslee's AP Government and Politics course.

  • WFHS Freshman Keagan Holliday accesses course information for Pedro Johnson in Ms. Nicole Means' World Geography course.

  • WFHS Freshman Keagan Holliday shows Mary Field Leak how to access course material in Ms. Nicole Means' World Geography class.

  • WFHS Junior Emma Pittman focuses on line structure for a commission-style project in Mr. Lane Thompson's Talented Art course.

  • WFHS Senior Katie Eschete works on a commission-style project in Mr. Lane Thompson's Talented Art course.

  • Ms. Eunice Dieguez helps students translate a short story in her Spanish class.

  • Mr. Hatem Bachar helps students conjugate verbs in his French II course.

  • WFHS Juniors Casey Weller, Katelyn Jones, and Hunter Giroir use crude materials to construct a suspension bridge in Coach Nick Smith's Intro to Engineering Design class. 

  • WFHS Freshman Christopher Murray builds a suspension bridge from limited material in Coach Nick Smith's Introduction to Engineering Design class.

  • The WFMS girls and boys basketball team attend an LSU Basketball Game last Saturday to see the Tigers defeat Auburn.

  • Bains Lower students, Nina Beauchamp, Opal Boeker, Harmony Burgos, Aubrie Beauchamp, and Ben Barr with Ms. Laura Lindsey lead the morning announcements.

  • WFMS students celebrate reading their most recent AR book!  The fingers in the air account for how many points they achieved from successfully passing the test on the book read.

  • Bains Lower School Safety Patrol members Christian Corbett Idlett and Johnny Matta Juarez monitor and greet students before they enter the library.

  • Braylon Parker, Tucker Navarre, Delvin Whitaker, and Michael Fudge are collaborating on a Reconstruction DBQ in Ms. Margaret Anne Pruitt's Social Studies class. 

  • Lilly Holland works on her rough draft of her drawing of the Old Benevolent Society building in St. Francisville in Mr. Kenneth Anio's class. 

  • Katherine Ralph, Emily Shelly, Brooke Williams, and Gracie Walters are constructing a Flipgrid on how technology affects their friendships in Ms. Kristin Patton's Keyboarding class.

  • Ms. Monica Traweek is working with Charlie Seal, Shamyra Covington, Mary Jane Opperman, and Monty Boyd on a cold read.

  • Darius Emery, Jude Weller, and Gage Metz are working on a way to save an endangered species in Ms. Mallory Cavin's science class. 

  • Students in Head Start and their parents researched Famous Americans for a poster project.  Maddox Toney did a wonderful job on this poster!

  • Ms. Nora Davis and Jamie search for squares on their shape walk.

 

 

  • Bains students are so impressive!  We have a  large number of students focus on reading before the first bell rings to start school.

Looking Ahead 

  • In honor of Black History Month and to celebrate the history of educational excellence in West Feliciana, the John S. Dawson Foundation and the West Feliciana Historical Society will host "The Dawson Legacy of Education in West Feliciana Parish."  The event will be held at the West Feliciana Historical Society in St. Francisville on Thursday, February 21 from 5:30-7:30 PM.

 

  • Please consider attending the Rural Homestead during the annual Audubon Pilgrimage.  The coupon below allows FREE admission for a family on March 16 and 17.

 

  • At the West Feliciana School Board meeting on January 15, the School Board voted to put before the voters on Saturday, May 4, 2019, a bond issue to build a new elementary school consisting of grades 1-5, a Ninth Grade Academy, and renovations of the WFHS Auditorium and the WFHS Career/Technical Building.  The bond issue of 9.95 mills over 30 years would generate $52 million dollars to complete all projects.
