Reflecting on Last Week 

  • Congratulations go to Ms. Jessica Walker, WFHS Math Teacher, for being selected as a semi-finalist for Louisiana State Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Walker will be recognized as 1 of only 5 semi-finalists throughout the state at the 12th annual Cecil J. Picard Awards Ceremony in July in Baton Rouge.  Ms. Jessica Walker who is well deserving of the honor!

  • A national school metrics group just rated our school system the 2nd best school system in the state!

  • WFMS and WFHS students spent Thursday planting marsh grass in Pecan Island through a partnership with The 300, a Louisiana coastal restoration group.  What an awesome experience!

  • Congratulations go to D'Aaron Sibley and Quinn James for making the 100 Point Club in Accelerated Reader at Bains Lower!

  • 6th grade students at WFMS operate a "Student Store" where they can use coupons they earn for good behavior to buy school supplies. Here Wyatt Olsen uses his "Halo Bucks" to buy a mechanical pencil from Desmond Roundtree, the store operator.

  

  • Mrs. Catherine Reed, the new STEM teacher at WFMS collaborates with Ethan Buchanan and Blaine Hord on 3D printing solutions.

  • Students in Mr. Cutrer's 8th grade science class conduct an experiment to determine which lasts longer, renewable or non-renewable energy sources. 

  • Congratulations go to Jakob Fudge who signed his track scholarship to the University of Louisiana Monroe this week!

  • Congratulations go to Mallory Cutrer and Emma Kate Temple for making the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association's Freshman All-State Team!

  • Mary Barrow was chosen as the Baton Rouge chapter winner for the Sons of the American Revolution Oration Competition.  She was awarded $500 and will compete in the state competition on April 21.

  • Evan Lejeune, 1st grader, reads before school at Bains Lower while Reader Leader volunteer Stephanie Ferguson follows along.  I am so impressed by our students focus on reading before school and the support our Reader Leaders provide each day.

  • Bains Lower students and WFHS Juniors and Seniors heard from Miss Louisiana 2017, Laryssa Bonacquisti, who shared her award-winning ventriloquism talents. She gave a motivational speech to our young students about believing in themselves and setting goals. She also spoke to our high school students about making good decisions during prom. 

  • Congratulations go to Hayleigh George for being selected as a Leader of the Week at Bains Lower!

  • June Morris and Emma Strahan do a great job of reading before school at Bains Elementary!

  • Jared Lane happily checks out another book at Bains before school.

  • Bains Lower students lead their fellow classmates each day by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, the Mission and Purpose Statement, and reviewing the 7 Habits of Highly Successful Students!  On Wednesday Morning, Hayes Whatley, Hayden Hebert, Ka'Liyah Reed, Charlie Morgan, and Jerry Lofton led their classmates.

  • Amber Quebedeaux volunteers in the library before school at Bains to help check books in.

  • Khiry Morrison and Hayden Charlet both celebrate major accomplishments.  Khiry has received 11 football scholarship offers to Division 1 schools this year and Hayden was selected to the 2018 LHSAA and Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association All State Baseball Team.

  • The WFHS Girls Softball Team honored Mr. Russell Achord.  Russell Achord won his fight with cancer but passed away while responding to an accident during an ice storm this winter.  The WFHS Girls wore lime green jerseys to raise awareness about Lymphoma.

  • Last Day of School for Students ~ May 18

Food for Thought

  • It's the time of the year for celebrations!  Let's remind our young people that it is wise to make good decisions as they celebrate prom and graduation.  A special thanks goes to our DARE organization, our sheriff's office, and our DA for supporting us in keeping our young people safe.
