Reflecting on Last Week 
  • Congratulations goes to Coach Rickey Grant for being selected as the 2018 LifeTime Achievement Recipient from the Lousiana Track and Field Coaches Association!  As many of you are aware, Coach Grant has led our girls track team to a record 8 state championships!  More importantly, he has mentored and coached many of our student athletes and has helped them to achieve scholarships.  Coach Grant is receiving a well deserved honor!
  • Each year, the Top 25 WFMS Students with the highest GPA are recognized with a jacket.  They are Kaitlin Barrow, MacKenzie Bedell, Abby Benton, Seth Corbin, Josie D'Aquilla, Elizabeth Dieguez, Andrew Dantin, Ashleigh Godke, Hayes Green, Maggie Hawkins, Catherine Hodges, Kara Hughes, Ty Lancaster, Mary Field Leak, Cate Leake, Kearstin Lee, Nick Lester, Alex Patin, Maddie Beth Posey, Anna Rea, Grant Rome, Cardell Smith, Drake Weller, Mary Frances Whitehouse, and Olivia Wilson.
 
  • Wendy Rodrigue, the wife of the late George Rodrigue, visited Bains Lower to tell our students and audience members about the story and life of the famous artist known for Louisiana landscapes and the Blue Dog!  At the end of the presentation, Ms. Rodrigue celebrated our partnership with the George Rodrigue Foundation and our status as a Louisiana A+ School by donating a print to the school.
  • Two of our students from WFMS videoed the entire celebration with Ms. Wendy Rodrigue.  Grant Rome and Micheal Corlew did an outstanding job with the use of technology.
  • CONGRATULATIONS to William Ralph for winning 7th place at the Middle School Swim League Championship Meet!!! 
 
  • WFMS students celebrated reading with fun activities for families during their annual SURF Night. The evening ended with a skype session with the renowned author of Awkward, Svetlana Chmakova!
  • Congratulations goes to WFMS for being named a state finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge! A special thanks goes to Ms. Heather Howle for writing this innovative grant. If chosen, this grant will lead to an exciting opportunity for the school and the community! 
  • Bains Girls on the Run ran the annual 5K in Baton Rouge on Sunday, November 19.  Our girls ran very hard and they ran with style.

  • I was honored to recognize Riyan Cotton and AJ Whitaker for their leadership in the classroom and on the field!  AJ has made a tremendous comeback from a shoulder injury and Riyan leads the Saints in tackles!  Go Saints!
  • One of the best times of the day is to watch our Head Start students begin their day with breakfast.  The students learn how to eat, use table manners, and socialize at such a young age.
  • Sharon Ourso instructs her English II Honors sophomores Jordan Stirgus, Ellis Manieri, Sydni Lavespere, and Ladaisha Burton in constructing a life-size character analysis representation from Kafka's Metamorphosis.

 

  • The Bains Lower Lighthouse Team met to choose safety officers and their new vice president on Monday.  This group is very impressive.  Congratulations goes to Sarah White for being selected as Vice President!

  • Ashlyn Rogillio, a 3rd grader at Bains, always finds time to read, study, and greet me on the hallway before school begins.  That is very inspiring to observe on my morning routine.
  • Senior Emma Beauchamp makes use of the high school media center to work on homework.

Looking Ahead
  • In order for everyone to have time to travel to New Orleans to cheer on the Saints in the state championship game, we will have an early dismissal day on next Friday, December 9th.  The game time is 7:00 PM in the New Orleans Mercedes Benz Superdome.  We will send out more details on early dismissal, game information and ticket information on Monday.
