Jr. Beta

What do you get when you add 7 district winners, 4 state winners, and 2 national winners? You get WFMS Jr. Beta Club! Jr. Beta is a national academic and service organization. Students must maintain A's and B's on their report card and may make only one C per six weeks. Last year WFMS had over 200 members, making us the largest club in the state.

Jr. Beta members can be found building and riding on a float in the Homecoming Parade, helping teachers with projects and tasks, or stocking and running the consession stands for football, volleyball and basketball. Beta members are active in many school activities - they play football, volleyball, basketball, run cross-country, serve as cheerleaders, swim on the school team and "shine" in the classroom and in leadership roles. Our members are also involved in many community service projects. Jr. Betas are commited to representing our school and community at the district, state and national levels of competition. Come be a leader and have some fun with WFMS Jr. Beta Club.

4-H

4-H is more than the raising and showing of livestock and horses. Students may participate in cooking, sewing, fashion, archery, photography, riflery, and other areas of interest. 4-H gives students the chance not only to learn new skills, but also give to others through community projects. In the past, 4-H students have brought their pets to the nursing home to brighten the day of our elderly people. 4-H also conducts fund raisers -- the sweet potatoes are so good they almost sell themselves!  4-H also tries to take a field trip each year. Last year we went bowling and to the planetarium. Parent volunteers are invited to participate in many club activities. Any student or parent interested in 4-H, see Mrs. Hughes or call the 4-H office at 635-3614.

Club Read

Is curling up with a great book your idea of fun? Do you love talking about books? If so, then Club Read (pronounced "red") is the place for you! Club Read is sponsored by our librarian, Mrs. Lathrop, to promote reading in the middle school. ALL students are welcome to join any time during the year. Activities include reading from a list of some of the best new books, gathering together during the school year to discuss these books, and advertising them to the rest of the school. Members also enjoy other events such as Character Dress Up day, the Club Read Book Festival, and they all love running the Book Fair Cafe'. Eighth grade Club Read members are privileged to attend the La Teen-age Librarians Association convention and an end-of-the-year Barnes and Noble shopping trip. So, join Club Read...the resort for readers!
